JOB DESCRIPTION:

This hands-on position is a key member of the Controls Programming group to ensure the equipment is running smoothly and meeting company and customer goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing PLC, Servo, and HMI controls software for packaging machines and assemblies, based on Edson’s extensive knowledge base and where necessary, innovate new automation solutions. The candidate will have the ability to create new and modify existing software for ease of troubleshooting in a custom machinery project based environment while working to adhere to technical specifications, schedule, and budget constraints.

•Prepares PLC, Servo, and HMI software from existing software libraries, as well as creates programs from scratch

•Compiles and analyzes operational and test data to establish performance standards for newly built or modified electrical control systems.

•Analyzes test data and reports to determine if software meets functional and performance specifications.

•Confers with engineering personnel and prepares software modifications as required.

•Interpret technical specifications & application parameters.

•Commissions new machines on shop floor.

•Perform machine start-up at customer’s facility, local or internationally. Travel to customers facilities can be up to 50% of the time

•Perform software modifications to existing machines.

•Assist installation team during install and commissioning of new machines.

•Act as an integral member of the Project team

•Be a main liaison for the customer, providing onsite support as needed and providing the company with feedback on potential opportunities that may exist. Act as a technical resource to customers. Support customer needs via phone, email and in person

•Educate, teach and provide training and/or resources to other employees and customers when required.

•Confers with electrical controls design, mechanical design and manufacturing personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develop software solutions.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

•Bachelors of Science degree in Mechatronics, Electro-Mechanical Engineering or Technology or related;

•Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as electrical controls programmer in custom automation sector.

•Experience in packaging industry preferred. •Excellent verbal and written communication skills which includes presentation skill.

•Good computer skills (Microsoft Office – Word/Excel, CAD, ERP systems;

•AutoCAD Electrical skills required •Allen Bradley RSLogix/Studio 5000 PLC programming, Servo Motion Control and Factory Talk knowledge required.

•Other Plc knowledge (i.e. Siemens, Schneider, B&R, Beckhoff, Omron) preferred

•Experience programming Fanuc robots preferred •Knowledge of general pneumatics required.

•Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner;

•Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy;

•Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills;

•Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor;

•Good interpersonal skills and ability to successfully handle a multi-tasked role;

•Strong customer service focus.

•Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without Company sponsorship.

•Able to travel internationally up to 50% of the time.
