Energy Innovation Program Consultant - SME

Arizona Public Service has an opportunity for an Energy Innovation Program Consultant who will be the subject matter expert (SME) to provide internal technical and advisory expertise in the areas of energy storage and distributed generation technologies. The Energy Innovation Program Consultant provides department- and cross-department advisory services across a wide variety of distribution-connected and behind-the-meter applications and projects.


 


Success in this role will require the proper execution of the following responsibilities:


Performing technology evaluations including customer and electrical distribution system-level technology assessments, business-case analysis, pilot project planning and implementation, in-field evaluation and technical reporting, program management, market-level cost and performance trend analysis, and development of formal, written evaluation reports. Developing and maintaining technical expertise on distribution- and transmission-level technologies as well as distributed generation and may be called on to act as lead to implement major projects and programs, coordinating and managing activities across multiple business units to extract the highest value. Developing relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally. Reporting to management on program status and provides advice on issues and opportunities.  


 


Major Accountabilities:


Lead technology assessments as required to investigate new distribution-level and/or customer technologies from a technical- and business-case perspective. Make recommendations on which programs to pursue and why.   In cooperation with lead project managers, develop and implement project work plans and secure buyoff and approval from cooperating departments. Regularly revise work plans to reflect current conditions and update as appropriate.   Interface directly and professionally with internal and external APS customers.    Implement key success indicator tracking and reporting. Develop and maintain tools for reporting progress made. Revise tracking mechanisms as appropriate.   Co-develop and manage training interface and coordination.    Effectively interface and resolve project issues with departmental staff, other departments, executive management, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to meet project requirements.   Through continuous learning, stay abreast of trends (technical, market, regulatory and political) and utilize this knowledge in order to maximize corporate benefits and minimize negative impacts.   Demonstrate a high individual level of analytical and technical capabilities and expertise on current technical and policy Energy Innovation issues, maintain technical expertise regarding Energy Innovation technologies.   Develop and maintain relationships with key local and state Energy Innovation stakeholders.   Participate, as Company representative in various forums, committees and working groups dealing with Energy Innovation technical, policy and regulatory issues.


 


Minimum Requirements:


Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Finance or Business. At least 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred with emphasis in either Chemistry or Electrical Engineering. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. In-depth knowledge of energy issues, technologies, markets, the electric utility industry, and relevant state and federal requirements. Excellent business, planning and project management skills. Preferred technology experience, in order of priority, includes but is not limited to: lithium-ion, standby diesel gensets, solar generation, and demand response technologies.
