Position Description
JOB SUMMARY
Under minimal supervision is responsible for monitoring and supporting the overall performance of regional systems, evaluating and recommending proposed improvements, and assisting in the correction of related problems. Train, support, instruct and coordinate the operation of the network from modem to regional demark. The position will assure the overall performance of the business network relative to established standards. Communicate effectively with corporate engineering and all regional disciplines.

ILLUSTRATIVE ACCOUNTABILITIES
•Provides quality internal and external customer service surrounding the Company values
•Conducts evaluation of engineering and network design of data and digital telecommunications equipment including routers, switches, fiber optic cables, digital switching systems and related peripherals
•Analyze all practical solutions to network technical and network-related business problems
•Provide Tiers 4 and 5 level support to Network Support Center (NOC) and their customers
•Coordinate with planning personnel responsible for other services to assure optimum utilization of shared network resources
•Provides input regarding the evaluation of fiber optic transmission, CMTS and other network equipment
•Provides on-going technical support and training for employees
•Provides guidance in resolving technical problems, implementation and follow through of preventative maintenance program
•Assist in the establishment of and adherence to network performance measurement and goals
•Assists in the preparation of proposals, sales calls and presentations
•May provide project supervision of contractor installation of equipment
•Works with large projects and custom equipment selection for customer unique applications making recommendations for selecting network hardware and software
•Interface between departments to implement installation, maintenance, or repair requirements
•Coordinate with planning personnel responsible for other serves to assure optimum utilization of shared network resources
•Serves as a mentor to other team members, providing instruction, support and direction
•Maintains and secures Company truck and equipment
•Uses small hand tools, power tools, meters, and other test equipment
•Works on regularly scheduled days as well as unscheduled days and beyond regular work hours as required
•Performs other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
•Ability to communicate in person and by telephone
•Hand and finger dexterity to carry and to use tools and equipment as necessary
•Vision ability: close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus; ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires
•Ability to work in confined spaces such as crawlspaces and attics by crawling, bending, reaching, twisting
•Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time  
•Ability to drive Company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner
•Ability to travel distances requiring overnight stays

Position Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor degree or equivalent preferred
•Appropriate valid driver's license and a good driving record
•Assist in the development of CMTS and cable modem configurations and
support requirements.
•Must have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications, analytical and problem-solving skills.
•3 to 5 year experience installing, testing, and/or maintaining Cable Modem Termination Systems.
•Working knowledge of HFC ("Hybrid Fiber Coax") Broadband network architecture, CMTS access ("cable modem termination system"), Packetcable and DOCSIS 1.0 or higher.
•Must have intermediate to expert level understanding of one or more of the following protocols, architectures, operating systems, programming languages or tools:
•TCP/IP, OSPF, Ethernet, Linux, Network Protocol Analyzers, Netcool, Visionary, Traceroute, Ping, SNMP, Perl, Shell scripts.
•Must have a CCNP, CCIE or adequate work experience to show competency.
•Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
•Ability to work independently and with others
•Ability to mentor and assist others
•Ability to comply with all Company implemented safety procedures
•Skill in using a Windows-based computer
•Proficient using spreadsheets, word-processing, and CAD programs
•Knowledge of advanced mathematics and electronics
•Bi-lingual proficiency preferred in some locations

WORKING CONDITIONS
•Work indoors in poorly ventilated areas such as attics during extreme heat
•Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, insects, cleaning solutions
•Work performed near AC and DC power
•Work, including travel, outdoors in adverse weather conditions day or night
