Sr. Engineer- Transmission Planning Job

Sr. Engineer-Transmission Planning – Xcel Energy Services, Inc., Amarillo, TX:  Apply technical expertise and have an understanding of the basic principles of other related disciplines related to bulk transmission system planning; demonstrate the unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering level by applying technical standard, principles, theories, concepts and techniques to lead transmission planning projects of moderate size, scope and complexity; perform transmission systems analysis which may including the following types of studies: steady-state power flow, short circuit, transient stability and voltage stability; perform and understand computer simulation of power system transmission facilities using power flow programs such as Siemens PTI PSS/E and MUST, short circuit analysis programs such as Electrocon International’s CAPE program; work with programming languages such as BASIC, C and derivatives, Python, or other similar computer programming languages; understand and follow federal, regional, local and planning guidelines including SPP, FERC, NERC, and state utility commission regulations; serve as liaison representing Xcel Energy in sub regional and regional planning groups; may participate in critical planning studies with oversight of a higher level engineer or supervisor; work with outside customers/consultants with all formats of communication; may coordinate tasks with engineers, technicians, and other support staff; serve as a mentor to less experienced engineers; and responsible for continuous self-development of technical skills and competencies.

 

Requires a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and three years of experience in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field; or a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited curriculum, or recognized equivalency, and five years of experience in electrical engineering or related engineering field.  Electrical Engineering degree must have specialization or emphasis in power systems as evidenced by the following: coursework in electric power generation and motors, power system protection, power distribution, electric power engineering, and power electronics.  Must also possess coursework or any experience in computer simulation of power system transmission facilities powerflow, stability, or short circuit analysis programs.
